ABOUT US

Andrea Dijkstra and Jeroen van Loon are Dutch multimedia journalists, based in Nairobi, Kenya. They work all over the continent for international media (like Deutsche Welle English, Al Jazeera English and Le Monde Afrique), Dutch media (like Het Parool, Vrij Nederland and NPO Radio 1) and Belgian media (like De Tijd, De Morgen and Knack Magazine). They also do videos and storytelling for international organizations like Amref Health Africa, the Clinton Foundation and Plan International. While Andrea focuses mostly on writing and radio reporting, Jeroen’s specialisms are photography and videography. They form a perfect team but also do individual assignments.

From 2011 till 2016, they undertook a journalistic road trip in their Land Rover Defender and worked in twenty African countries, including Ethiopia, Kenya, South-Sudan, Rwanda, D.R. Congo, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa. Thanks to this journey, they met many interesting people and learned so much about the diversity and complexity of this puzzling continent.

MEET OUR TEAM

ANDREA DIJKSTRA

Journalist, Co-Founder

My name is Andrea Dijkstra and I’m a passionate freelance multimedia journalist from the Netherlands. I’m based in Nairobi, Kenya, but also travel on a regular basis to other countries in East- and Southern Africa to produce written articles and radio reports about all kinds of topics, from human rights to entrepreneurship and from conflicts to climate change.

I work for international media (like Deutsche Welle English, Al Jazeera English and Le Monde Afrique), for Dutch media (like Het Parool, Vrij Nederland and NPO Radio 1) and Belgian media (like De Tijd and Knack Magazine). I also produce videos for organizations like Amref Health Africa, the Clinton Foundation and the Rutgers Stichting, in collaboration with photographer and videographer Jeroen van Loon.

Before I moved to Africa in 2011, I worked as an editor for the NCRV NPO Radio 1 desk and press office Novum Nieuws in the Netherlands and as a freelance foreign journalist, doing stories in for example Afghanistan, Brazil and Indonesia. From 2011 till 2016, I did a journalistic road trip together with photographer Jeroen van Loon through twenty African countries: Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, South-Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, DR Congo, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland and South-Africa. Thanks to this journey, we met so many different people, learned about the diversity of this puzzling continent and covered numerous of stories in all these different countries.

JEROEN VAN LOON

Photographer, Co-Founder

My name is Jeroen van Loon and I’m a passionate freelance photographer and videographer from the Netherlands. I’m based in Nairobi, Kenya, but also travel on a regular basis to other countries in Africa for photography and videography assignments.
